About Us

  • About the publisher

Two Read Books is a small, independent publishing company in British Columbia, Canada. We specialize in creating phonics storybooks for 6–9 year olds who are learning to read and who have dyslexia or struggle with another language-based learning difficulty, including learning English as a second language.

Our books contain stories written at an older child’s cognitive level but at an early reading level. The books are for educational and home markets.

Our first book Meg and Greg: A Duck in a Sock is available to buy in print and e-book formats on Amazon, Indigo, Barnes & Noble, Kobo and iBooks.

See Meg & Greg Books to find out more about our stories and how we keep them interesting while steering clear of words with advanced spellings.

  • About the authors

We’re Elspeth and Rowena, sisters who believe in a world where all children learn to read with confidence and have the chance to discover the pleasure of being lost in a good book. We’ve joined forces to create the Meg and Greg books.

Elspeth Rae is a certified Orton Gillingham teacher of children with dyslexia and other language-learning difficulties. She is based in Vancouver, BC.

Elspeth was diagnosed with dyslexia at age 8 and received Orton Gillingham instruction during her school years. As a certified teacher, she now runs the 44 Sounds Orton Gillingham Learning Studio in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she teaches reading, spelling, and writing to children ages 4–15.

In her Learning Studio, Elspeth has plenty of flashcards, worksheets, games, and other activities to introduce her students to new phonograms. But she struggles to find high-interest stories that focus on a single phonogram at a time without including spelling exceptions or more advanced phonograms. So, Elspeth and Rowena began collaborating on this project to help fill the hole in Elspeth’s Learning Studio materials, and we hope also to fill a hole for other teachers and families looking for suitable materials for the learning 6-9-year-old reader in their life.

Rowena Rae is a children’s writer and editor in Victoria, BC. She has written science and nature articles for a children’s magazine and has three nonfiction books coming out soon with an educational publisher. She also has many, many picture book manuscripts on the go. Working on the Meg and Greg book project is making her look at the English language in a whole different way. For more information about her writing and editing, visit Rowena’s website.
